• In October 2024, NYC Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez announced the launch of the 'Smart Curbs' program on the Upper West Side. This program, initially announced the previous year, will implement and evaluate new strategies and regulations to enhance safety, reduce congestion, create vibrant and clean public spaces, and support efficient local deliveries, among other improvements.
• In August 2024, INRIX, Inc., a global leader in transportation data and analytics, launched INRIX IQ Curb Analytics, a new cloud-based tool designed to improve curbside management. This tool digitizes and visualizes the curbside, enabling cities to maximize accessibility, availability, revenue, and safety for drivers, pedestrians, and users of micromobility devices. The City of Portland’s Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) will be the first public agencies to utilize Curb Analytics. PBOT will use the tool as part of its federally funded SMART grant project to implement a Zero Emissions Delivery Zone, while SFMTA will use it to create the first publicly available citywide digital curb regulation and asset inventory.
• In May 2024, the City of Hoboken Department of Transportation and Parking launched the first phase of public engagement for The Curb Reimagined. This initiative, Hoboken’s Curbside Mobility and Parking Action Plan, aims to determine how the city can best utilize curbside space to meet the needs of all residents and advance its goals of improved safety, sustainability, and economic development. The Curb Reimagined project will develop recommendations for managing curbside space to better accommodate the growing needs of Hoboken residents and businesses.
